Booked Out: The Best Psychological Thrillers
We asked an actual book expert – Bronte Coates, digital content coordinator at iconic Aussie bookseller Readings – what's just hit the shelves.
Q. Eek, the time for Xmas pressie buying is nigh. What can I buy for my mate who loves psychological thrillers (and maybe I'll borrow it after her to read at the beach?)
A. German author Melanie Raabe is a favourite at Readings and her two books to have been released in Australia are delicious twisty tales with killer hooks. The Trap sees a woman write a bestselling book to ensnare her sister’s killer, and The Stranger sees a strange man claiming to be a woman’s long-missing husband.
Your friend might also enjoy Ali Land’s Good Me, Bad Me (the daughter of a serial killer may not be as innocent as she seems) or Based on a True Story by Delphine de Vigan (a brilliantly unsettling exploration of female friendship, very single-white-female-esque). That last book was voted one of the best crime books of 2017, so comes highly recommended.
